What Mega Evolution Is in Pokémon Champions
Regulation M-B includes Mega-capable Pokémon and their corresponding Mega Stones. Each listed Mega form has its own recorded ability.
Here are selected examples from the verified stone and ability list:
- Charizardite Y gives Mega Charizard Y Drought.
- Charizardite X gives Mega Charizard X Tough Claws.
- Garchompite gives Mega Garchomp Sand Force.
- Tyranitarite gives Mega Tyranitar Sand Stream.
- Venusaurite gives Mega Venusaur Thick Fat.
- Aerodactylite gives Mega Aerodactyl Tough Claws.
- Staraptite gives Mega Staraptor Contrary.
- Metagrossite gives Mega Metagross Tough Claws.
- Swampertite gives Mega Swampert Swift Swim.
- Raichunite X and Raichunite Y give Mega Raichu Electric Surge and No Guard respectively.
- Floettite is Floette's Mega Stone in this format.
What the Mega Stone Costs You
The stone lives in the held item slot. That means the Pokémon carrying it does not get a Sitrus Berry, Focus Sash, Life Orb, Leftovers, Choice Scarf, or a berry like Yache Berry or Chople Berry. In practice you are trading one of the team's other held items for the benefits provided by the Mega form and its ability.
The Item Clause compounds the cost. No two Pokémon on your team may share an item, so your six item slots are already tight — Sitrus Berry, Focus Sash, and Leftovers can only appear once each across the team. Committing one of those slots to a Mega Stone means the rest of the team has to cover whatever that Pokémon's item slot can no longer provide.
Which Mega-Capable Pokémon Are Being Played
From the current meta snapshot (showdowntier.com, updated 07/31/2026 01:01):
- Garchomp — usage 27.65%, win rate 50.58%.
- Charizard — usage 18.28%, win rate 51.12%.
- Staraptor — usage 15.29%, win rate 51.56%.
- Raichu — usage 11.56%, win rate 49.65%.
- Tyranitar — usage 10.61%, win rate 51.24%.
- Venusaur — usage 9.33%, win rate 51.21%.
- Aerodactyl — usage 9.01%, win rate 51.30%.
- Floette (Eterna) — usage 8.16%, win rate 51.38%.
- Swampert — usage 7.31%, win rate 50.80%.
- Metagross — usage 6.94%, win rate 50.62%.
These are species usage figures — how often the Pokémon appears at all — not confirmation that every copy is running its stone.
Choosing Your Mega
Pick your Mega by asking three questions in order:
- What does the team need? Each stone is a fixed choice of ability, so choose the stone whose form your team has a use for. Charizard's recorded Weather Ball sets win 61.3% of their games and its Solar Beam sets 56.3%. Tyranitar's recorded Rock Slide sets win 56.2%.
- What do the species' recorded sets look like? Staraptor's Close Combat sets win 57.9% of their games and its Brave Bird sets 58.5%. Aerodactyl's Dual Wingbeat sets win 56%. Venusaur's Sludge Bomb sets win 56% and its Solar Beam sets 63.3%.
- What does the slot cost? A Mega Stone user cannot also hold a Focus Sash or Sitrus Berry, so if that Pokémon needed one of those items, either accept its absence or pick a different Mega.
Building Around the Mega You Picked
One rule to internalise: each Mega form carries exactly one ability, listed separately from the base form's. Mega Venusaur's is Thick Fat, not Venusaur's Overgrow or Chlorophyll; Mega Charizard Y's is Drought, not Charizard's Blaze or Solar Power. Do not build a plan that assumes both. The Mega ability is not always a different one, though: Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar both have Sand Stream.
Speed control. Aerodactyl's recorded Tailwind sets have a 55.1% win rate.
Support layers. Garchomp's recorded partners include Chandelure, Glimmora, Blastoise, and Corviknight. Tyranitar's recorded partners include Tinkaton and Kommo-o. Charizard's recorded partners include Glimmora, Floette, Aerodactyl, and Annihilape.
A second win condition. It is useful to build a second win condition alongside your Mega. Recorded partners across these species include Kingambit, Gholdengo, Dragonite, Metagross, and Primarina.
